You know the adage, “Measure twice, cut once”? It’s applicable to testing, too. For automation to be successful, the approach has to be thoughtful and well-planned. Keep these rules in mind for effective testing:
- Focus on effective testing, not on test execution or automation scripting – no more than five percent of test cases should be executed manually, and no more than five percent of testing resources applied
- Your automation tool should be (a) robust in identifying bugs and problems; and (b) minimize time, costs and resource utilization
- Be alert! Bored or complacent testers might important problems so pass monotonous tasks to automation. Let the testers focus on test scenarios that challenge them.
